Welcome to mywiki.
Hello my name is Holly and I am very excited!
Can you tell? My only worry right now is that my dog is destroying the house as I sit here typing on my new wiki page. Harley, my dog, decided to rearrange all of the stuffed animals in my daugther's room yesterday. I think we found all of the them last night. It was quite the scene. My daughter was still angry with Harley as we left today. I left the TV on Animal Planet and it doesn't seem to work... go figure...The day before she found the bag of rawhide bones and dispersed them thoughout the house... half eaten and looking very guilty as we entered the house. She keeps us all busy!!!
Oh yea.... About me, I am a happy camper who resides at the OCDE on a regular basis. I am the Early Literacy Coordinator. I get the opportunity to work with teachers, administrators and district personnel throughout OC. My work as you can guess revolves around Literacy and Language Arts.
Reflections
So... as you reflect on your neglectful canine ways, what are your hunches about the source of your dog abandonment? ellen
It sounds like there are some conflicts between offspring and pet. What might be some of the ways that your daughter can explore the phrase, "turnabout is fairplay?" -Ted
Holly's Reflections of Day 1:
I think that I can start a bookmark for the resources that support the current workshops that I am doing in LA. As well, the wikiespaces could be used to dialogue with teachers about the strategies they are using in the classroom after the workshops. Knowing the research from Joyce and Showers about the change that occurs after staff development (low to nothing without coaching and follow up), I think that setting up a wikie or bookmark can be a tool for teachers and keeping updated on what is working as well as the challenges faced in implementing the ideas after the classes. Having 27 districts seems so daunting, but this can be a tool for keeping teachers informed as well as a place for teachers to share ideas.
In our work with Networks, the bookmarks can be a great place for staff developers and district office personnel to find resources to support the work and vision within LA. Feedback can be done thru the wikie as well as setting agenda prior to our monthly meetings.
My partner is on maternity... a wikie would be a great way to communicate as well as keep her informed of the work we do while she is gone... if indeed she wants to know..
On a personal note, it would be great to share with my children's current teacher who has a number of students in their classes that have laptops. To have a wikie for reflection or questions as well as a bookmark for places to visit when researching would be something I would like to share with them. Fun things We did:
this is a picture of my little... oops "growing" little one, Cydney Quinn... she turns 9 on Sunday. We are having a celebration on Saturday after class with 10 girls and pumpkin carving, scary (semi-scary) movies, pizza, treats and a long night. Sounds like fun to me.
Noah is my oldest. He is the best. He is so kind and warm hearted. He is currently at Science Camp. I can't wait to hear about all of his adventures.... Here they are... Aren't they the BEST!

Mission Statement and Vision
Mission Statement: Excellence In Everything
Through shared decisions, our Professional Learning Community will continuously increase student achievement and school effectiveness by:
• Involving All Stakeholders
• Collaborative Teaming Using Data as Evidence
• Providing a Safe, Nurturing, and Empowering Learning Environment Where All Learners Maximize Potential
• Building Leadership Capacity With Administrative Guidance and Modeling
• Engaging Students in Positive Interdependence while Respecting Diversity
Reflection on Shared Vision of Learning
When revisiting our California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders, I felt empowered with the knowledge and deeper understanding of the 1st standard that outlines “the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning.” In the past, I had an awareness of the Mission and Vision that surrounds a professional working environment. Having worked in the Health and Educational Industry, I possessed a superficial idea of missions and visions, but not the passion I feel in making it a “shared and supported” vision that drives all toward continuous achievement. We need a commitment by all those involved if we want to truly make a difference. I found the articles and dialogue always led to a re-affirming theme of commitment and passion by all stakeholders. I believe that the details of the vision fall within the “substrands” of the standard itself:
1. Student achievement based in evidence
2. Involving all Stakeholders
3. Using Resources to meet the diversity the school population
4. Identifying the challenges to accomplishing the vision
5. Utilizing best practices and strategies to engage all learners
Our course on Shared Vision led us through various activities, processes and discussions that fostered opportunities to deepen our knowledge on how to make it possible. I found the article by Roland S. Barth, A Personal Vision of a Good School, resonated with me and my attempt(s) to write a mission and vision. Truly, everyone must be committed to effectiveness as life-long learners, given the constant change that is occurring in our diverse population and technological society. The school community must value relationships and push everyone outside their comfort zone to become risk takers. School teams need to embrace our differences in personalities and styles and we must engage our community with a “culture of inquiry”, while having fun! In order to be effective and efficient we need to build capacity with leaders and strive towards achievement in all areas. As I reflect on my own mission and vision, I am surprised at how close it aligns with the ideas Barth articulates in his article. I had not re-read it until I began this reflection on our work with this class.
I am also very fortunate to practice the idea of vision planning as I take part on a team that supports schools that are in Program Improvement. The work with colleagues has been to look at the current reality of a school that is “A High Priority School” and use a variety of activities and processes to lead the school teams towards a mission and vision in preparing for the High Priority Grant. What has struck me as a powerful way to get stakeholders on the same page is to begin with activities that help us find a common ground. We did this with couple of activities that allowed us to identify values and beliefs that we hold near and true as a person. As a team we then identified the similarities and differences between us and then came to consensus on what our group belief was as a school. I found it very interesting in watching the interaction of the principals for the two schools. One was very skeptical about the process, which has an effect on her team, while the other always was a positive role model. Barth’s statement about “position of leadership as the head learner, engaging in, displaying, and modeling behaviors we want teachers and students to adopt” was reflected in the outcomes of the work performed by the two teams. In order for a school to have an effective vision that will lead us to desired outcomes, the principal has an important role in everything he/she does and helps guide what must be done to achieve it.
I know that the work we did has not only allowed me to know the differences between a mission and a vision, but I feel prepared to facilitate a process to help stakeholders focus on a shared vision that will impact achievement and effectiveness at a school.
